Northern Series - Rounds 1 and 2

The Northern Series kicked off in July in Leeds. Leeds Roller Dolls, Rainy City Roller Girls, Middlesbrough Milk Rollers and Newcastle Rollergirls went head to head in the start of this inaugural mini-league.

Several weeks later the teams converged on the Thunder Dome in Oldham as Rainy City hosted the second round. In the coming months the teams will visit Middlesbrough and Newcastle. So far the action has been great, tough bouts and close games.

The Northern Series emulates the Heartland Series, an attempt to ’up’ the competition and put Roller Derby in to a structure that fans can understand. Arguably it can only be a good thing, providing a hook to attract new fans and a reason to support the teams, both home and away. It will take a while for these leagues to codify and expand but when they do it should help secure the sports future.

... and one last one.
