Meet Team Italy For The World Cup Of Roller Derby

SEITAN HELLE #L7

How long have you been skating together as a team?

1 year more or less, but we only met 6-7 times

How many leagues are represented in Team Italy?

7… 4 are Italian (She Wolves - Roller Derby Roma, Harpies - Roller Derby Milano, Bloody Wheels - Roller Derby Torino, Alp’n’ Rockets - Roller Derby Bolzano)
Have you had the opportunity to play any other National teams in the lead up to the WC, and do any of your members have international bouting experience?

We played one bout against Switzerland. I think our coaches have international outing experience, while for Italians.. well, it’s already a miracle that we have a bouting experience at all (that can be counted on the finger of two -or even one- hands)

Who is your derby hero and why?

It’s always been Kamikaze Kitten. I love the way she jumps and stays in bounds in the most craziest ways. Also, she’s European, so it means that she has to be twice as much good to stand out in an international level.

Do you have any bout day rituals?

Hope I will one day.

How do you feel about the bracket you're in?

Hm… hopeful?

How are your fundraising efforts going?

It’s never enough, so be generous!!! http://www.gofundme.com/b8rnz0

Anything else you'd like the derby world to know about Team Italy?

We exist!!! And we learn very fast.

How long have you been skating together as a team?

It' s less than a year that we skate together, since the beginning I could feel to be part of a team! More time I spend with my team mates more the feeling is getting stronger!

How many leagues are represented in Team Italy?

Seven leagues are represented in Team Italy, three of them are foreign leagues.

Have you had the opportunity to play any other National teams in the lead up to the WC, and do any of your members have international bouting experience?

Yes, we play Swizterland. Yes some girls in the team played internationally.

Who is your derby hero and why?

I have a lots of derby hero. They change depending on which role I'm playing mostly at the moment. I use them as an inspiration. One above all I should say is Suzy Hotrod

Do you have any bout day rituals?

At the moment I don't. I used to have some because I can get a bit stressed before a bout but when I'm playing with Team Italy they can distract me and put me in the right mood really easily.

How do you feel about the bracket you're in?

Pretty good! It will be a good challenge since they are all amazing teams.

How are your fundraising efforts going?

Yes, we do! http://www.gofundme.com/b8rnz0

Anything else you'd like the derby world to know about Team Italy?

Even if this sport is brand new for our country we managed to put together the very first Team Italy. All the leagues and all the roller girls in Italy worked and still working really hard for this and have my total admiration. As Part of Team Italy I know we will fight till the last second on the track for not let this girl down!

HELLGA THE MURDERMAID

How long have you been skating together as a team?

Once a month, since may 2014.

How many leagues are represented in Team Italy?

Four Italian leagues: Milano, Torino, Roma, Bolzano and three European London Rockin Rollers, Berlin Bombshells and Copenhagen.

Have you had the opportunity to play any other National teams in the lead up to the WC, and do any of your members have international bouting experience?

We played one bout against Switzerland and that was the very first bout for many of us! I’d say half of us have bouting experience and the other half doesn’t yet.

Who is your derby hero and why?

Second Hand Smoke from Minnesota. I attended a bootcamp held by some skater of Team USA in July and I saw her eating cherries on the bench when their bout against

Team Sweden was just about to start...It looked so light-hearted! Everything she does on the track is full of energy and seems so natural and easy!

Then, everyone who gives me a chance to learn something new is my hero.

Do you have any bout day rituals?

The night before I need to put lots of blister relief plasters on my feet and I sleep with socks on. Since I am very anxious, I make sure to wake up early in order to take my time for breakfast and meeting my team.

How do you feel about the bracket you're in?

We are attending this world cup with no expectations, we’ll do our best! What we want is to bring back a lot of derby into our country! Australia and Belgium are experienced teams and it will be very challenging. I’m curious about Greece because I know they formed only few months ago-just like us! We have nothing to loose, just a lot to learn and have fun

How are your fundraising efforts going?

We still need a lot of help!!! We can make pizza for you or give non-verbal communication courses in exchange! http://www.gofundme.com/b8rnz0

Anything else you'd like the derby world to know about Team Italy?

When we decided to put ourselves into this, only few teams existed in Italy. Our mission was to spread the derby disease: now there are almost 20! We took the bull by the horns, made our team with very little experience and all sacrifice it takes...I can’t believe we made it so far!! As I said, we have nothing to loose, only to learn therefore THANK YOU in advance to anyone who can give us advice or simply a pat on the shoulder!
