Name: Erin Willis
Team: MSRD Riveters
Time Playing Roller Derby: Since November, 2014, all with MSRD
What brought you to Roller Derby? I needed an outlet for all my energy, I had just come back from a long distance hiking trip and running wasn’t cutting it. I wanted to find a team sport, too, since most of the sports I played growing up were individual.
Why do you continue to play Roller Derby? I’ve always played sports that focus more on endurance than strength. I love that derby requires both of these things, I like feeling strong.
What do you do outside of Roller Derby? I work for the Richmond Animal League, so I get to hang out with dogs and cats all day! It’s ridiculously rewarding and the best job I’ve ever had. In my free time I like to do pretty much anything that involves being outside – running, biking, hiking. I also like to knit and watch Battlestar Galactica.
Favorite Derby Moment: I’m still so new, so I have a new favorite moment every other week it seems. Whenever I’m jamming and I get through the pack, I always have such a high after that, even if I didn’t get lead or it took forever. I love going as fast as I can around the track.
Fun Facts About Erin:
In 2014, I walked from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my whole life.
I have a blue bow tattooed on the side of my head.
I’m REALLY good at making garlic bread.
