Sacred takes first at Deep Blue Tourney!

Last weekend Sacred City Derby Girls headed north to the Deep Blue Tourney held in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, CA. This was the 3rd year that the Tahoe Derby Dames have held this tournament and it proved to be a fun and exciting weekend of derby action! At the end of the weekend Sacred’s hard work paid off and we placed first in the tournament! Here’s a look back at the action of the weekend.
This tournament was an opportunity for our team to come together, work on new strategies, and to bond with each other off the track. In the last few months several exceptional skaters have transferred to Sacred and this tournament helped the team learn about which players worked best together and which strategies we needed to work on.
The tournament started on Saturday morning with Sacred facing off against the women of Inland Empire Derby Divas, with Sacred taking the win, 183-15. After our first win we advanced in the bracket to play again on Saturday afternoon. In our second bout we took on Sierra Regional Roller Derby, and came out the winners, 173-30. After playing two games in one day it became clear that the altitude (6,000ft above sea level!) was playing a major role in our athletic performance. Increased muscle cramps, shortness of breath, and fatigue were just a few of the hurdles the skaters had to tackle during the tournament.
On Sunday we played our first game against Sac City Rollers-Folsom Bruisers, a team we thought we might lose to! After an intense bout we came out with the win with a score of 186-23. In the end, it came down to Sacred versus Silicon Valley Roller Girls-Killabytes, with a final score of 270-172 in favor of Sacred. All of the teams put up a good fight and dished out some amazing defense and offense! Sacred would like to thank all of them for allowing us to be a part of their weekend and teaching us so much. Thank you to the Tahoe Derby Dames for hosting such an awesome tournament, to the officials for all of their hard work; it was an all around rad time!
For Sacred, the tournament was not about being only focused on winning or losing, but focusing on mental togetherness, strategy, and team bonding. We hope this win is the start of something great!
