Rhinestone Cowgirls vs. Hellcats Recap

The Rhinestone Cowgirls and the Hellcats went head-to-head in a defense-heavy battle last Saturday night. The bout started out slowly; however, like the storms that rolled and stomped through Austin, it rumbled to a thunderous finish.
The first half of the bout was a cacophony of hard hits, punishing pillow fights, and deadlock defense. Hellcat Heathen HookHer scored the bout’s first point in the very first jam. The defensive play was so destructive that neither team was able to score again until the seventh jam.  It was then when Mad Maxican had a two- point jam for the Rhinestone Cowgirls, scoring their first points and stealing the lead.  The Rhinestone Cowgirls lassoed three more points, and the first quarter ended in a score of 4-1.

Sexy Sadie started the second quarter by pouncing on two points for the Hellcats, and two jams later Mastur Peyton scored one more for the tie.  Rhinestone jammers Cold Warr and Max Maxican scored five unanswered points and wrangled a 9-4 lead for the Cowgirls.  They learned quickly, however, that even the baddest of cowgirls have a hard time herding cats.  Hellcat jammer Knock Out went on a wild tear, which resulted in a scorching five-point jam and a tie game. The scoring went back and forth, and the second quarter ended in a score of 13-12, in favor of Rhinestone Cowgirls.

Rejuvenated by the rock-n-roll provided by Black Irish Texas, Cold Warr quickly scored the first points of  the second half and kicked off a scoring spree for the Rhinestone Cowgirls.  The tension and fatigue showed itself in the minor penalties committed on both benches. The crowd was treated to a brutal two-lap duel and an exciting long-jump in which Knock Out was able to steal two points from the Cowgirls.

It was a 24-14 (Rhinestone Cowgirls) start to the fourth quarter, and it was still anybody’s game. Cold Warr heated up the track with an amazing nine-point jam, and theHellCat blockers fought tooth and claw to keep this bout close. Each team committed three major penalties in the fourth quarter, and those ghost points are haunting the skaters still today.  In the end of the Rhinestone Cowgirls were able to wrangle in a 39-23 victory over the always pretty in pink Hellcats.
