PREVIEW – Women’s T2 South – Gameday 1

The opening game of Tier 2 of the Women’s British Roller Derby Championships is Royal Windsor Roller Girls vs Portsmouth Roller Wenches in the Tier 2 UKRDA National South division. Currently 17th in Europe, Windsor ended the 2014 season winning only 1 out of 11 games, including games in their first US WFTDA tournament in the Beach Brawl International, but playing a series of higher ranked teams throughout the year. Their last win came against Hot Wheel in September 179-94, while their last game in November was a defeat against Auld Reekie 207-136.

Currently 41st in Europe, Portsmouth won 4 out of 8 games in 2014. They’ve already kicked off their 2015 season, with a 166-98 defeat to Manchester Roller Derby at Tattoo Freeze.

The teams have never met before. Flat Track Stats gives a 94% probability of a Windsor victory with a ratio of 24:11.

In the second game, Seaside Sirens Roller Girls face London Rockin’ Rollers. Ranked 48th in Europe, the Sirens ended the year with a 252-182 defeat against Bear City’s B team, Inglorious Bombshells, and with a season record of 3 victories out of 7 games.

The Rockin’ Rollers are ranked 22nd in Europe. With a winning record of 4 out of 10, including European games at A Skate Odyssey, their last game in November was a 166-148 victory over Birmingham Blitz Dames.

The teams have played once before, when the Sirens edged a nailbiting victory 150-147 in September 2014. Flat Track Stats gives an 85% probability of a Rockin’ Rollers victory with a ratio of 37:23.

The British Roller Derby Championships is Europe’s largest interleague Women’s and Men’s Flat Track Roller Derby Tournament. 72 women’s leagues from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are divided into four tiers for double header bout days spanning the year, with a playoffs to find who will be British Roller Derby Champions for 2015! For the first time, 14 men’s teams will also participate in the debut men’s British Championships tournament, with three tiers of double header action across the year!
