Tournament announcements, employment appointments and a purpose-built, permanent roller derby space. It’s all happening in the world of flat track derby this week – let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
Modern Roller Derby’s First Purpose-Built Venue
Buffalo, NY’s Queen City Roller Girls are moving to a purpose-built, permanent derby track at the new Buffalo RiverWorks Event Center. Buffalo Riverworks – an overhauled grain mill – will serve as a multi-purpose recreational and events center that will host concerts, trade shows, theatrical productions and sports, including derby. The new derby space promises to have great seating options that give audiences an excellent view of the game, and with an on-site brewery, you know the fans will be flocking to this place to support, cheer and enjoy a couple of beers doing it.
Applications Open for 2015 WFTDA Tournament Hosts
WFTDA is seeking venues and organizations to host the 2015 WFTDA Playoffs and Championships. There are currently seven opportunities across two divisions to host WFTDA Tournaments. Venues need to accommodate between 1500 and 5000 spectators (depending on the event) and should ideally have a competition track, warm-up track, stadium seating, changing rooms and space for a vendor village. While non-WFTDA leagues are encouraged to put in a bid, support from a local WFTDA league is key in any application. Interested parties should submit their application before the July 1 deadline. For more information, email email@example.com.
