Twiggy Twerkins of the Portside Pirates
I began my Roller Derby Journey at the Skate and Greet in September of 2013. It had been 26 years since I was on a pair of roller skates and I was both excited and nervous. I skated for the full two hours and couldn’t wait for Learn to Skate to begin. I immediately went to Heartbreak Boutique to purchase my gear (make my investment ) and felt like a kid again with my new roller skates. I completed Fresh Meat in 8 weeks and was nervous and excited again to be on the Portside Pirates. My first season as a Roller Derby player had it’s ups and downs. I knew I was no spring chicken but was willing to give it my all. The first half of the season went well until I found myself injured and being 41 years old, realized that I needed to take time to heal. I spent the last half of the season Bench Managing and trying my hand at a little bit of coaching. Roller Derby is a tough sport but I love it! I’m looking forward to getting back on skates this season and skating with the team. Yarr!!!!
